Connecticut film historian Jon Sonneborn and his daughter Jessica Sonneborn shared the screen in Morton Meets the Eye ahead of its Fairfield premiere and Q&A.
The musical comedy was filmed in California, but its East Coast premiere at Sacred Heart University’s Community Theatre connected the film to Fairfield audiences and a Connecticut film historian who has hosted classic screenings locally.
The premiere included a behind-the-scenes conversation with the producer, director, and cast and benefited WSHU Public Radio.
It is a useful example of how Connecticut’s venues and film communities can serve as premiere, conversation, and fundraising partners even when a project was shot elsewhere.
What this means for the people making media
News becomes useful when it connects back to action. A new production creates opportunities for local crews and vendors. A venue story can become a location or broadcast lead. A policy change can change a budget. A community story can become the next documentary, campaign, interview, or music video.
