Lighthouse Lens returned to New Haven with 27 projects, student work, Connecticut stories, international documentaries, and a mission to rebuild a local cinema community.
The festival highlighted films connected to Connecticut, including a fictionalized account of the Donna Lee Bakery murders, a UConn superfan documentary, and a student film about the former mill town of Baltic.
Programming spread across venues including East Haven Public Television and The Cannon, creating a multi-location festival footprint for New Haven audiences.
Lighthouse Lens grew out of the community that formed around the former New Haven Documentary Film Festival and continues the work of supporting local filmmakers.
What this means for the people making media
News becomes useful when it connects back to action. A new production creates opportunities for local crews and vendors. A venue story can become a location or broadcast lead. A policy change can change a budget. A community story can become the next documentary, campaign, interview, or music video.
